Partnering for Progress: Yachay Wasi and CanopyLAB Join Forces to Empower Rural Education

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Yachay Wasi. The partnership underscores StudentLAB’s role as a hub where students engage with real-world challenges such as rural education, climate change, and equity. Yachay Wasi’s courses embody this, empowering students to understand and act on one of today’s most urgent educational inequalities.

Yachay Wasi, which translates from Quechua as the "House of Knowledge," is a dynamic social volunteer initiative founded in 2020 by Chaska Quispe. Born from the urgent need to address educational disruption following the pandemic, Yachay Wasi focuses on supporting children and teenagers in Peru's public schools and vulnerable communities, particularly in remote Andean and Amazonian areas where connectivity is a significant hurdle. You can learn more about their impact here.

Its mission is to transform education in Peru by acting as an agent of change for holistic and decentralized learning. The initiative achieves this through a comprehensive, ecosystem-based approach that includes:

  • Academic tutoring and reinforcement for students.

  • Emotional and psychological accompaniment for students, parents, and teachers.

  • Workshops for parents.

  • Digital capacity training for educators.

Yachay Wasi has joined CanopyLAB in a partnership to bring their vital work onto our student platform StudentLAB. This collaboration is directly aligned with CanopyLAB’s mission to realize UN Sustainable Development Goal #4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Through this partnership, Yachay Wasi will leverage StudentLAB’s open virtual space to create a series of free online courses. These courses will be based on the unique challenges of rural education in Peru and share valuable activist training.

We're excited to work with CanopyLAB. Being able to centralize training and courses in one place allows us to expand our reach to more volunteers and train them safely. Each training session is aligned with the national curriculum and national and international goals to improve education.
